Screaming Droid Film Festival
Screaming Droid Film Festival is THE place for independent, thought-provoking short films in west Wales.
Are you a filmmaker?
SDFF is committed to keeping submission costs as low as possible. We’re not trying to make money off struggling filmmakers. Check out the submission costs for yourself and you’ll see how accessible it is to have the chance to be part of the festival.
What kinds of films get chosen?
Nothing is off the table at SDFF. Every genre is welcome; however, the entries that seem to do well so far are art films, documentaries, animations, and dramas. But every festival has also seen poetry, horror, sci-fi, thriller, comedy and everything in between. What matters, above anything else, is your film’s ability to spark interesting conversations.
There’s only have 2 rules…
1. All films must be 20 minutes max.
2. Any film not in English must have subtitles.
That’s it. No restrictions on genre, theme, or gear, it just needs to be interesting.
What to expect…
SDFF is an independent film festival with a focus on films that spark deep thought and discussion. Unlike other film festivals, SDFF isn’t trying to create false competition between filmmakers, but instead give filmmakers with something to say a place to say it. It’s not about who’s the best director, cinematographer, actor, or even writer. What matters is films that are thought provoking and make the audience think, talk, and feel something.
This approach lets SDFF showcase a diverse range of themes and stories by filmmakers from all over the world. It offers a rare space to use film to expand our knowledge, open ourselves up to new concepts, talk about themes we might not usually talk about, and maybe even learn something new. The evening is packed with short films, academic presentations, open discussion and ends with a special screening of a well known feature film exhibited in a new way that you’ve likely never seen or thought of before.
Experimental Screening
Previous years have seen us watch…
Blade Runner; Watched forward and backwards at the same time with the reverse version overlayed on top of the other and with audio only from the forward moving version.
Star Wars: episode III; In black and white, with Japanese audio and no subtitles.
Jaws; Re-edited by a fan using footage from other movies and documentaries to create a sharksploitation version of the film.
Screaming Droid Film Festival is guaranteed to leave you with an experience you can’t find anywhere else, and you’ll be talking about some of the films you saw for the rest of your life.
